A Passion for Teaching

Welcome our temporary Grace Kids Curriculum Writer, Ann Marie. She is filling in for our very own Carrie Honeycutt curing a maternity leave. Ann Marie and her husband, Stuart, have been married 18 years and have 3 kids: Drew is 15, Gracie is 13 and Adeline is a 11. You can read more about her, the Bicknell family and how they are serving the Kingdom here!

Ann Marie has a passion for teaching kids, which makes her the perfect fit for this role. She received her BA in Elementary Education from Trinity College (now Trinity Internation University) in Deerfield, IL and taught for 16 years in a variety of places including Wisconsin, Illinois, Costa Rica, Hungary, Ukraine and now in Indiana! She’s loved experiencing working with kids from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. And is now excited to use that to write curriculum for a diverse group of kids at all three of our campuses.

When Ann Marie came out to Indiana 10 years ago looking for a house, they knew they wanted to find a home church as soon as possible. They had heard of Grace through some friends and were told it was similar to their church in Wisconsin. Before coming for a weekend service, Ann Marie checked out Real Mom’s the week they moved and never left :-)! So, we guess you could say it was church love at first ministry experience.

So what does Ann Marie enjoy doing when she’s not working with kids? She loves to read and travel! Her two favorite authors right now are Lisa See and Maeve Binchy. Want to know something pretty astounding? Ann Marie has been to 47 countries! Her goal is to go to all the continents and try to see as many countries as possible!  The top 5 places she’s been include:

  1. Budapest, Hungary because that’s where she met her husband and fell in love.

  2. Kiev, Ukraine because it is where she had her first child and became a mom.

  3. Prague, Czech Republic because it’s her favorite city in the world.

  4. Istanbul, Turkey because it has the most amazing food.

  5. Beijing, China because walking on the Great Wall was something she had always wanted to do and crossed it off her bucket list.

  6. Bonus: The next country she wants to visit is Nepal! (We bet climbing Mount Everest is also on her bucket list.)

When asking Ann Marie what her hopes are for this role? She says, “I presently volunteer in Little One’s Way and get to connect with families in the capacity of loving their littles so they can go to church. I look forward to being a part of another team that helps share God’s love in ways that the littles can understand and see Jesus for themselves.”
Thank you Ann Marie, we’re excited to have you! Share your words of encouragement with Ann Marie while she fills this temporary role!
