Use Your Five Senses to Break through Multiplication Barriers

When we try to multiply disciples, we can face real barriers, most often with ourselves. Let’s address these barriers and how to break through them using our five senses.

1.  Nearsightedness

Often those we disciple don’t see what we see in them. They don’t see that they could be disciples themselves. Break through this barrier by encouraging and believing in them, helping them to see what God sees:  that they can be world changers by discipling another. “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” Matthew 4:19

2.  Hearing Lies

The Devil constantly sows lies to people telling them they don’t measure up. They hear and believe the lie that they will never make a difference in another person’s life. Break through this barrier by reminding them – they have the power to identify and cancel lies of the enemy. “…take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5b

3.  A Bad Taste

Some previous relationships have likely left a bad taste in the mouth of your disciple. Break through this barrier by coaching them to forgive any grudges or hard feelings from previous relationships in order to free them for future discipleship relationships. “Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.” Colossians 3:13

4.  Where There’s Smoke

The old proverb says, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” You may smell smoke in your disciple’s life - signs of a destructive sin pattern which needs to be addressed before they should disciple another. Break through this barrier by first admitting your own sin before Christ, pray for the Holy Spirit to convict them of their destructive sin, gently hold up the mirror to their sin pattern, and lead them to confession and repentance. “…you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.” James 5:20

5.  Untouchable

Often people do not disciple, because no one tapped them on the shoulder and sent them in the power of Jesus Christ. Break through this barrier by exercising your authority in Christ to commission and send them in the name of Jesus Christ by laying on of hands. If you need help with this, seek out a pastor to share this powerful moment with you. “For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” 2 Timothy 1:6

From our 40-Day Prayer Challenge, keep asking the Lord of the harvest to raise up at least ONE of your disciples to disciple another. And join me in praying that will have 2,000 engaged in the Way of Discipleship in 2017 and 10,000 by 2020.
