The Infamous Fan Jam

I couldn’t be more ecstatic to be a part of the infamous Fan Jam! Brooke Carnes and I are newbies to the Grace Kids team and, therefore, new to this greatly anticipated event. Luckily, we have been guided by loyal volunteers and amazing team members in order for Grace to host the 4th and 5th graders in a night of fun! We decided to call in one of those loyal volunteers to share their personal Fan Jam experience, meet James Rutland:

A Volunteer's Experience

James has been on the inflatables team with Fan Jam since it first started at Grace! His daughter volunteered every year until she went to college and his son has both attended as a 4th and 5th grader, then began volunteering after he was too old to attend. When asking James what his fondest and funniest memories were, he said, "Two years ago, I had an epic wardrobe malfunction (think Janet Jackson only PG). We always test the inflatables after the kids go into big worship, so we can 'make sure they are truly safe' (that’s my story and I am sticking to it). Well, needless to say, my favorite pair of jeans ripped all the way down the center of my legs. I had to find some Gaff tape to fix them. It was quite the spectacle!"

So, why does James volunteer every year? He says it's because, "The inflatables, the worship, the laughter, being able to talk while waiting in line, kids coming to Christ, and new kids coming to Grace after Fan Jam, it's all just so incredible. The most rewarding part is seeing the kids who went to Fan Jam come back to volunteer and mentor the new kids."

If you're new to this event, James has some helpful advice, "Don’t let your kids miss this event and have them bring a friend! If you get a chance, volunteer so you can see Grace like you have never seen it before. It’s one of my favorite things in Grace Kids!"

Your Questions Answered

Who can go?
All campuses are invited to come, but is a 4th and 5th grade event only! We encourage kids to bring all their friends, but they must also be in 4th or 5th grade.

Where will it be held?
This year, Fan Jam is on March 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the 146th Street campus (doors open for check-in at 6:15 p.m.).

What is the cost and what does it include? It is $18 to attend. Fan Jam is taking over the church with a variety of awesome inflatable games, live worship, a powerful message, and snacks. The snacks are not a substantial meal, so eat dinner before coming! Plan for a lot of jumping and dancing, so wear clothes you can get sweaty in! Socks are also a must because bare feet...ewww, just ewww.

How do I register? Register here. Due to the amount of students involved, we do not allow walk-in registrations.

Can parents/guardians or older siblings go? Absolutely! Sign up to volunteer with us! Childcare up to 3rd grade is available from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

How old do I have to be top volunteer?  If you are in 6th grade or up, you can volunteer for Fan Jam.

Do you still have questions that were not answered? Shoot Brooke or myself an email and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can!
