We couldn’t be more thrilled for you to meet the newest member of our Grace staff, Johan Chikkala. He will be filling the role of Administrative Assistant for Student Ministries at our 146th Street campus. If Jerry Maguire worked at Grace, he’d certainly tell Johan that he completes us:).
Johan’s journey to Grace Church is very unique. His parents were born and raised in Hyderabad, India into two Christian households. So, he is a first-generation Indian and a fourth-generation Christian! Johan and his family moved to Fishers in 2004. At the time, he was just 8 years old (adorable alert!). When he came to Grace for the first time, his parents had him attend Grace Kids. He loved it so much that they kept bringing him back. Now, 12.5 years later, they are all still here and Johan says that, “Grace has been an immeasurably significant influence in [his] life.”
Johan is currently in school at IUPUI (just like one of our newer staff members, Matt. He’s working on his bachelor’s degree in Health Services Management. Before accepting the position here, Johan worked as an associate at Creative Solutions in Packaging in Westfield.
If you’ve ever been around Johan for even just a few seconds, you know instantly that he is a fun guy. He’s kind of a jack of all trades man. In his spare time, he likes going for hikes, tossing the frisbee, enjoying a game of spikeball with his buddies, playing musical instruments, and dreaming with friends.
Want to know something even cooler about Johan? He loves music and can play over 20 instruments including, but not limited to: guitar (several kinds), banjo, violin, melodica (not sure what it is…check this out), drums (several kinds), vibraphone, timpani, table, triangle, tambourine and finger cymbals (okay, that’s pretty sweet) and piano! Plus, right now, he is a current and active member in a professional world-class competitive drumline. One other awesome thing about Johan, he loves international travel and has travelled abroad 12 times so far! Some of his favorite places to go include Kenya, Ukraine, India, Canada and the Caribbean.
When asked what his greatest dream is for his role, Johan said, “As an aspiring hospital administrator, I believe that this student ministries administration role can be highly beneficial for me to get a foot-in-the-door of the world of administration and gain first-hand insight as well as hands-on experience of what non-profit administration and management looks like. What better way to gain insightful experience that can benefit my future career, and positively impact the community that I live in (and the Kingdom of God), all through the church I have called home for over a decade?”
Welcome aboard, Johan! We are so happy to have you here. Please take a second to welcome Johan to our staff team in the comments below!
