BY KRISTEN RAVES, DIRECTOR OF DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS
With one of our wonderful staff members gearing up for maternity leave, Rufus Campbell is stepping in to assist our production team while Erin is away. We’re so grateful that Rufus has is joining us for the next three months! Since he’s going to be around for a little while, we thought you might want to get to know him!
Here goes…Rufus is originally from Buffalo, NY (we were too afraid to ask him about those 90’s Super Bowl losses on his first day…but we're assuming he's still a fan). He loves the snow…when we actually get it. Rufus may have the record for most siblings on staff. He grew up in a family of 12 children! After high school, Rufus went to college at SW Missouri State University (now Missouri State) and graduated with an Art degree in Graphic Design. Upon graduation, he served on staff with the music ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ (now CRU) for 11 years – 7 of those years based in Indianapolis. He met his wife, Claudia, while on staff and they have been married for 36 years. They now have two grown daughters, Holly and Cydney. Rufus and Claudia were involved in the first Indy Vineyard church plant here in Indy, where they worked after leaving CRU. He’s also been on staff of River Oaks Community Church and BridgeWay Community Church (another Grace Church plant), along with assisting with other church plants and ministries here in Indy.
With all these ties to Grace, we bet you’re wondering how he finally got here. Rufus first met Dave Rodriguez when his band performed at Faith Church (the church that Grace launched from). Although he hadn’t officially attended Grace, he’d had associations with this great big church over the years and have watched it grow from its inception to what it is today. So, when we had a temporary opening, Rufus knew all about us, applied, interviewed, and was welcomed to the team this week!
Rufus’ favorite hobby is music. He plays a couple of different instruments, so trying to stay up on them takes up most of any free time I have. (Maybe he and Johan should have a jam session!) One of the coolest instruments he plays is the bagpipes! Who votes he plays them one weekend?! Maybe if we get enough comments below, we can see him play during services.
When asking Rufus what he hopes to accomplish in his temporary role, he said, “My desire is to be able to connect well with the people I serve at Grace. I love to discover hidden potential in people and help pull that potential out of them along with caring for them well.”
We are so thankful to have Rufus on our staff team. Take a moment to welcome him to Grace in the comments below!
