Welcome to Grace Kids, Buffy!
BY KRISTEN RAVES, DIRECTOR OF DIGITAL COMMUNICATION
We have a newbie to the Grace Kids staff! Buffy will be joining our team as the Director Event Childcare. While she is new to the team, she’s been around Grace for nearly three years!
Buffy grew up in San Diego and lived at the beach for most of her life. And, while she says that she misses it very much, she is also glad that her family has continually answered the call to go where they feel God leading them. For instance…to Indiana (more on that in a bit).J She is married to her wonderful husband, Ryan, and has three amazing children, Marlys, Maddie and John.
Buffy and her family found Grace online from our home in Virginia. When they learned that her husband's job was looking to send them to Indiana, they immediately began their search for a new church home. They were so impressed with the first message they watched that they knew we had to be the place for them. Dave Rodriguez and Tim Ayers spoke together in a two-part sermon and gave scripture references to back up the church's stance on the roles that women play in church leadership. Buffy said, “That message was so refreshing for us to hear that my husband and I decided right then and there that we would attend Grace while we were visiting Fishers in search of a home.” They moved here in 2014 and have been attending Grace ever since.
Buffy and her family began going to Fishers campus a little less than a year ago. There she serves, along with her daughters, on the Fishers Outloud team and enjoy every minute of it.
Buffy’s hobbies include running races and coaching new runners with the Fishers YMCA Long Distance Running Group. She also enjoys cooking and writing. Currently, her favorite thing to cook is Mexican food. And, she enjoys baking when she has the time.
Something unique about this wonderful woman? Buffy shared that she grew up in a very different environment and saw things that changed the way she looked at the world around her. From a young age, she felt compassion for the people who were sharing her same struggles. She’s always had the desire to help people who suffer from abuse, neglect and addiction since they affected her when she was a child. We are so thankful to have her heart on staff and at Grace!
Something she hopes to accomplish while on staff? Buffy says, “I hope to be able to use my story to help others. I want to make people feel welcomed, wanted, and like they belong. I hope to continue to pour into the lives of women and children and to learn and grow myself.”
Please take a moment to welcome Buffy in the comments below!
