25 Years of Love & Power

25 Years of Love & Power

Posted on September 08, 2016

Leading up to Grace Church's 25th Anniversary, we are counting down the days by posting 25 blog posts in 25 days by 25 authors (well, 24... Dave wrote twice)! The post below is one of these posts.

The Holy Spirit was present and at work from the very first service of Grace Church the second Sunday of 1991. Everyone felt it. We were experiencing a divine encounter, an invitation to join God in what He was going to do in and through this brand new spiritual community. It was going to impact generations! Of that we were sure. After searching a year for our church family to love, grow, and serve with, this was it! Bob and I could hardly contain ourselves with the understanding we were home, and we had better buckle our seatbelts!

If God does not look so much at the magnitude of anything we do as at the love with which we do it, the past twenty five years have been a testimony of our desire to reflect His love first and foremost. Magnitude- yes! Grace has been a church of global accomplishment, with excellence. The evidence of that would fill books. But heart- oh my! Love abounds at Grace. His love. Our love for each other. The evidence of this would also fill books.

Those who were babes themselves when Grace was born have had the rare privilege of always knowing they are the apple of God’s eye (Psalm 17:8). Countless men and women have held mirrors before our children in order for them to see themselves as God does- cherished, with a future full of possibilities and hope as they surrender to and follow Him.

The evidence of our impact on the next generations have names: Grant. Jess. Andrew. Lisa. Joey. Liz. Carli. Easton. Jackie. Micaela. David. Reilly. Lila. Lauren. Chase. Scott. Craig. Michelle. Barry .Jeff. Jenn. Kyle. Tyler. Jon. Ashlyn. Jared. Chris. Jake. Emily. Marion. Luke. Bryan. And these are just some of those who have grown up at Grace who are currently leading, and carrying on our legacy of love, in many capacities! The names in total would fill books!

Must we remember the past 25 years? Yes! Celebrate all that God has done? Yes! Rest? NO! We must press on with the love of God and in the power of the Spirit. For future generations, we must. The whole creation is on tiptoe to see the wonderful sight of the children of God coming into their own. (Romans 8: 19) Grace Church must continue to be on tiptoe to see future children declare, “I am no longer a slave to sin, Love has called my name, I am a child of God”, and go forth into His Kingdom in love and power, to change the world in Jesus’ name. Grace Church must continue the good work God has given us to do, remaining strong to the end.

I have every confidence Grace Church will do just that! To the glory of God forever and ever. Amen!
