Unraveling All We've Been Given

Unraveling All We've Been Given

Leading up to Grace Church's 25th Anniversary, we are counting down the days by posting 25 blog posts in 25 days by 25 authors (well, 24. Dave wrote twice). The post below is one of these posts.

It is difficult to define how Grace has grown and changed over the years, mostly because of how much I have grown and changed over the years. However, that very well could be the best description; Grace has changed because God has changed our people and leaders. My name is Amy Osgood and our family has been attending Grace for 15 years. For the last 10 years I’ve served on the prayer team in a variety of capacities. I have been praying strategically for Grace and our pastors, in both unofficial and official ways. Prayers for Grace Church naturally came into my quiet times. Too often the small things I was talking to God about for me; mirrored the larger corporate needs and condition of the church. In addition to that, I’ve served on pastors’ strategic prayer teams. It is an unspeakable privilege to be in the room when God’s Presence and direction become clear to those called to lead Grace and our ministries. God has been faithful.

When someone gives their life to Christ in surrender and follows Him daily, that person immediately has the fullness of HIS Spirit within them. His Word tells us that we have everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Then we spend the rest of our lives unpacking and unraveling what that means. It is mixed with repentance, forgiveness, healing, compassion, authority, victory - all interwoven with the love of Christ. Our spiritual account to withdraw from was full at our spiritual birth and never runs out. We take out only what we are able to handle at each time of withdraw. The same is true for Grace Church. Since our birth 25 years ago God gave us everything we would need to move His Kingdom into this world. The way we have been experimenting and growing in prayer has been pivotal. Through the Prayer Gatherings, daily staff prayer times, defining and understanding prayer,  and challenging materials like The Circle Maker, we are learning to take larger withdraws from God’s account. Just like God’s Word is alive and active, so too is Grace’s relevance to our current culture. It has changed over the past 25 years to keep in step with His Spirit. We have discovered through prayer that God continues to ask of us to go deeper, believe He’s bigger, and step into darker and darker places.

Grace has grown and existed for 25 years because our leaders humbly seek God for their own growth as well as for Grace’s health, well being and direction. The two cannot be separated. As our pastors, elders, staff, volunteers, and the people of Grace seek God for their own healing, for forgiveness, for restoration, God’s faithfulness also spills over into corporate benefits. Isn’t that just like the Kingdom of God though? We are stamped in HIS image, called to do His bidding. When our personal lives are changed by God, so is this world.
