Praying for Dave Rod

Praying for Dave Rod

Posted on September 26, 2017

A few weeks ago during a Sunday morning service at the North Campus, Dave Rod showed pictures from his daily prayer walk. He shared, in fascinating detail and high definition, his journey around his neighborhood and past businesses, schools, and the YMCA. These locations and people help drive his prayer life each morning. It was an interesting visual story and served as a challenge to for those listening. It caused us to stop and think about how we spend our own time with God.

If Dave was honest, and I'm willing to take him at his word, his daily prayer walks include prayers for the members of the congregation. If you've been around Grace very long, it isn't hard to see that there are a lot of us. I doubt that he prays for each one of us by name, but there is no doubt that he knows a lot of hurting people and he prays for them. He knows a lot people with family drama and he prays for those folks as well. He knows of a lot of broken lives, a lot of terrible situations, a lot of men and women who are seeking God's presence in their lives...and he prays for them all.
I am sure that Dave prays for the communities of Fishers, Noblesville, Nora, Carmel, Westfield...and beyond.
I am confident that Dave prays for the ministries of Grace; youth, children, groups, outreach,Bloomington, London, and Australia.
There is no doubt that Dave prays for the Six Broken Places of the world and the many creative ways that Grace church and its members can engage each one in the name of Christ.
In the past couple of month, in various venues, Dave has explained that he is leaving for his sabbatical and he has asked repeatedly that we pray for he and Penny while they are away from the church. It was a request from someone who’s prayed for us all. It was an ask from a man who has prayed for me, personally. It was a request from a pastor to his congregation, and I'm going to do it. And I would ask that you join me in fulfilling this request.

Can you imagine what would happen if every attender of Grace started walking the streets of their own neighborhood and started praying for their local businesses, their good friends, their remote neighbors, their church and even their pastors? Can you imagine if every person at Grace prayed for Dave and Penny during their time away? What would happen in their lives? How would God move in their hearts and lives, if we were only faithful to the appeal?
But for what do we pray?

  • We could pray for the healing of their bodies; that they know renewed energy and strength.

  • We could pray for peace in their soul; that God will remind them of their call to ministry and to services.

  • We could pray for a renewal of their spirits; that God would reveal a love and grace in a way they’ve never known before, even after years of searching for His will.

  • We could pray for wisdom in their minds and creativity in their hearts; that Penny can hear the music in a new a creative way, that Dave will know how to write the words that God has placed on his heart.

What If

What if thousands of Grace attenders lifted to God our pastor and his family over the next few months? I believe that our prayers to a loving and gracious God on behalf of those who have served us faithfully for more than a quarter of a century might change their lives in ways we can never imagine.

I couldn't help but think of your words ... to run to the crisis or need or tragedy ... as so many did in Las Vegas. Love wins in the midst of such pain. Prayers that our church can continue to be a beacon. And that you return rested and prepared to lead the charge again.

I was praying for you this morning, Dave and Penny, on my drive to school, and now that I am at lunch I run across this post from Grace! My prayer is simply for renewal and restoration of body, mind, and spirit for both you. Hope you are having a truly restorative time!
