On Friday, October 9th Grace Church will be hosting a Family Movie Night. There will be popcorn and candy, games and prizes, and families will be able to choose between two different Dr. Seuss movies to enjoy with their family and friends.
But you might be asking yourself – why is a church hosting a movie night?
Shouldn’t the church be focused on things like bible studies and Sunday morning services? Yes, absolutely it should be. But being a church that cares about its congregation, and its local community requires more than throwing a few things on the calendar and calling it good.
For one, Family Movie Night does serve as an introduction to our annual theater production. This year Grace Theater will perform the Broadway play Seussical. The play will run later in November of this year, and yes, you’ll have a chance to win free tickets. But the Family Movie Night is so much more than that. At Grace Church we believe in using our space, our staff, and our resources in ways that will benefit everyone in our community.
So here are four reasons Grace Church is hosting a movie night. And four reasons why I think you should join us!
1. It’s a Free Event
Every single part of Family Movie Night is 100% free. There are no tickets and no admission fee. The popcorn, candy, and drinks – including café drinks for the first 30 minutes! – are all covered by Grace Church. In a time when everything seems more expensive, it’s nice to give your wallet the night off.
2. It’s Safe Space for Kids and Families
We know that safety is of the utmost importance to you and your family. That is why every single staff member and every volunteer who regularly interacts with children goes through our background check process. There will also be a security officer available during this event. Your child’s safety is important to us, and we want you to know your kids are in good hands at Grace Church.
3. It’s a Great chance for Connection … with other Adults
Many of us live life at a frenetic pace - running from work to daycare to soccer practice and the next thing and the next thing. We are constantly on the go. Family Movie Night is a great chance to slow down and enjoy some unhurried connection and conversation. While the kids enjoy the movie, grab a bag of popcorn and chat with that friend you haven’t seen in a while. Or perhaps, meet some other parents and make a new connection.
4. It’s an Easy Invite to Pass Along
A final reason that Family Movie Night is such a great event is that’s easy to invite others. It’s totally free, there’s plenty to keep the kids busy, and you’re not hosting – so you don’t have to do the clean up! So please feel free to pass the invite to your neighbors and other parents at the football field. It’s as simple as saying, “Hey, I’m going to this Family Movie Night – you should come with us!”
