Week 1: Continuing the Work

Scripture Reading

Philippians 1:6
"And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns."

Background

In his letter to the Philippians, Paul speaks powerfully about the confidence we can have in God’s transformative work in our lives. His assurance that God will complete what He started is a source of hope for believers. This confidence is not rooted in our own abilities but in God’s faithfulness and commitment to us.

Paul, writing from prison, exemplifies this confidence despite his circumstances. He understands that life may be unpredictable and challenging, but he trusts that God is at work. This perspective encourages us to recognize that our journey of faith is ongoing. Each day, God is shaping us, preparing us for His purposes, and instilling within us the strength to face life’s challenges.

Paul begins with thanksgiving and prayers. He encourages fellowship and confidence in God’s plan. When we place our confidence in God, we shift our focus from our limitations to His limitless power. This trust enables us to navigate difficulties with assurance, knowing that every trial is an opportunity for growth and refinement.

As you go through your day, remember to include gratitude and prayer, and make sure your confidence is anchored in Christ. Embrace the work He is doing in you and trust that He will bring it to completion.

Consider:

  • Reflect on God’s Faithfulness: Do you recall moments in your life where God has been faithful? Write them down and revisit them when you need encouragement.
  • Pray for Confidence: Do you recognize how God is involved in your work? Seek His strength and trust Him fully, especially in uncertain situations.

Action
Share with someone else how God has worked in your life. Your testimony can inspire confidence in them as well.

Prayer
Gracious Father, thank You for the promise that You will complete the work You have begun in me. Help me to place my confidence in You, even when I face challenges. Remind me of Your faithfulness and fill me with the assurance that You are actively working in my life. May I be a source of encouragement to others as they navigate their own journeys. Amen.

Week 1 Prayer Guide

Monday

Philippians 1:3-5
"Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy, for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now."

Lord, thank You for the gift of fellowship. Help me to cherish the relationships I have within the body of Christ. May I be a source of encouragement and support to others, and may our partnerships in the gospel bring glory to Your name. Teach me to love and serve my fellow believers as You love and serve us. Amen.

Tuesday

2 Peter 1:12
"Therefore, I will always remind you about these things—even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught."

Lord, thank You for the gift of remembrance. Help me to focus on the moments of joy and the people who have encouraged my faith. May I cultivate a spirit of gratitude that reflects Your goodness. As I remember Your faithfulness, let it strengthen my trust in You for the future. Amen.

Wednesday

Philippians 4:6-7
"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of prayer. Help me to bring my worries and requests to You with a heart full of faith and thanksgiving. May Your peace envelop me and guard my mind as I seek You. Teach me to pray continuously and to trust in Your perfect timing. Amen.

Thursday

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
"Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus."

Heavenly Father, we are so grateful that You have placed people in every town to welcome the stranger and provide community with the people of God. Show us the way to unite and continue the growth of Your kingdom and leave a legacy for the next generation: a legacy of faith and truth. We thank You for Your love and mercy as we struggle to reflect the light of Your love in a broken world. May our work be to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

Friday

2 Timothy 2:11-13
"This is a trustworthy saying: If we die with him, we will also live with him. If we endure hardship, we will reign with him. If we deny him, he will deny us. If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is."

Lord, thank You for Your unchanging nature and Your faithfulness in every season of life. Help me to see Your hand at work, even when circumstances feel overwhelming. Teach me to approach You with a heart full of thanks, trusting in Your goodness and love. Amen.
